Chinese Cultural Lectures

The National Education Lecture Service for teachers, parents, and students, along with Guidelines on Teachers' Professional Conduct  offers a comprehensive service including handouts, souvenirs, and integrated survey feedback. Schools are welcome to call 3566-0246 for inquiries.

Topic: 1.1 Guidelines on Teacher Professional Ethics: Content and Practice

  • Overview:

In December 2022, the Hong Kong Education Bureau issued the "Guidelines on Teacher Professional Conduct," aiming to clearly define the professional ethics and behavioral standards expected of teachers. Educators should thoroughly understand these guidelines and the requirements they place on both professional and personal conduct. At the school level, the guidelines can guide the development of staff conduct management measures and professional development plans, and the recognition of outstanding teachers.

DISC is a behavioral analysis tool used by the Education Bureau in the training of prospective principals in Hong Kong's primary and secondary schools. Many school leadership training course participants have undergone DISC work style analysis.

(2) Professional Development for Teachers (National/State Security Education, Patriotism Education) [Applicable to Primary and Secondary Schools] [1.5-3 hours]

Topic: 2.1 Concepts and Practices of National (State Security, National Conditions) Education

  • Overview:

Following the enactment of the National Anthem Ordinance on June 12, 2020, the National Security Law on June 30, 2020, and the revised the National Flag and the National Emblem Ordinance on September 29, 2021, there is a legal emphasis on "enhancing citizens' national awareness and promoting patriotism." How can schools accelerate their preparation for national education? Are the teacher teams adequately equipped? Schools have a social responsibility to cultivate the next generation's understanding, recognition, and positive feelings towards the country. With China's long history and rich cultural heritage, and the unprecedented "One Country, Two Systems" context, how can schools nurture the next generation to possess both a love for Hong Kong and a heart for China?

Topic: 2.2 Understanding the Law, Compliance, and National Conditions

  • Overview:

Topic: 2.3 Modern History to Today China

  • Introduction:

To understand Today China, one must understand the Chinese Communist Party; to understand the Chinese Communist Party, one must also be familiar with modern Chinese history.

In the new context of "One Country, Two Systems," school leaders and teachers need to understand the origins of the People's Republic of China. Important dates listed in the national education calendar issued by the Education Bureau include July 1, the anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. According to Article 1 of the national Constitution, "The leadership of the Chinese Communist Party is the most essential characteristic of socialism with Chinese characteristics," which requires teachers to have a certain understanding of the Chinese Communist Party.

This session examines China’s progress towards socialism with Chinese characteristics since the reform and opening. It highlights the four types of confidence: political confidence, path confidence, theoretical confidence, and cultural confidence, discussing the practical significance of "democracy." The session will also cover the meaning of Chinese-style modernization as presented in the 20th National Congress. Finally, it will summarize President Xi's remarks from his July 1, 2022 speech regarding the new situation under "One Country, Two Systems," exploring its important implications for Hong Kong and its education.

Topic: 3.1 Fostering Talent in Children, Strengthening Families and the Nation [1-2 hours]

  • Overview:

This seminar will first introduce parents to guidance for nurturing their teenagers at different developmental stages. It will then explain the legal regulations parents should be aware of under the new "One Country, Two Systems" framework, helping guide their children to comply with the law. Building on this foundation, parents will gain insight into Hong Kong's unique position and advantages within the country, aligning with the development of Chinese-style modernization to plan for their children's futures and assist them in achieving family and national strength.

Participants will also visit sites related to the Anti-Japanese War, revisiting a challenging historical period in Hong Kong. Finally, various museums in the region feature exhibitions connecting Hong Kong and the mainland, showcasing the intertwined destinies of Hong Kong and the nation.

Students will learn how the country has developed its aerospace technology through self-reliance, the role of Chinese peacekeeping forces, and how to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and Hong Kong residents abroad. Through these stories, students will gain insights into national development, encouraging them to study diligently and practice gratitude.

The seminar begins by exploring the origin of the number "four" to pique students' interest. It will then explain each of the ancient "Four Great Inventions" (the compass, gunpowder, papermaking, and movable type printing), detailing their origins, developments, and profound impacts on knowledge dissemination, cultural integration, warfare transformation, and maritime exploration. The session will also highlight the modern "Four Great Inventions" of China (high-speed rail, electronic payments, bike-sharing, and online shopping) and how they have reshaped national life and enhanced social efficiency. Finally, it will introduce China's new achievements in the "New Three Products + 1" (new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, solar products, and wind energy products), showcasing the country’s leading position in environmental technology. This seminar aims to highlight the ancient and modern wisdom,innovative spirit of China, encouraging students to inherit excellent Chinese traditions, explore boldly, and contribute to the future.

Finally, by introducing the characteristics of Chinese-style modernization, students will gain insight into their development direction as Hong Kong youth, encouraging them to study hard and contribute to the nation's modernization and Hong Kong's prosperous development.

Following an introduction to national security knowledge, approximately 30 students will be divided into six groups to engage in three activities related to national security:

  1. Quiz: Each group will randomly select members to answer questions about national security knowledge.

  2. Task: The entire group will collaborate to respond to a "National Response Plan."

  3. Presentation: Each group will choose a member to explain a selected national security topic to the whole class.
